Lennon Film Project Receives Cash Injection
A proposed movie titled Nowhere Boy, focusing on the early life of John Lennon, has been awarded funding by the UK Film Council. The flick will be based on a 2007 memoir by the late Beatles legends half sister, Julia Baird. Matt Greenhalgh, who penned the recent award winning rock biopic Control, is writing the script. Julias book took me into a world that illuminated so much about this legendary genius, says Greenhalgh.


1983 U2 Live Album Getting Reissue Treatment
U2s 1983 live effort, Under a Blood Red Sky, will be reissued Sept. 23. The collection will be made available as a single CD and in a CD/DVD package. The rerelease will precede the bands 12th studio effort, which is due in November. In other news, a controversial plan to make renovations to the historic Clarence Hotel in Dublin, Ireland a building co owned by U2s Bono and the Edge has been approved.


Police Rolling Out Reunion Tour CD/DVD
A CD/DVD featuring performances from two Police reunion concerts captured last December in Buenos Aires, Argentina, is expected out later this year. It was a pretty exciting show, recalls drummer Stewart Copeland. The stickmans son Jordan directed a documentary that will be included on the DVD. Meanwhile, an eBay auction offering VIP packages to the Police s last-ever concert Aug. 7 in New York is under way. The sale, which runs until July 24, will benefit New York-area public-TV stations.


AC/DC Coming Back With Black?
Unofficial reports are claiming that AC/DC s long awaited next studio effort will be released Oct. 28, and likely will be titled Black Ice. Word has it the albums first single will be called Runaway Train, and will be issued late next month. The Australian rockers are rumored to be planning a world tour that will begin later in 2008. The new disc is expected to be sold via an exclusive deal with Wal Mart.


Two Zep Vinyl Box Sets Due Out Soon
Two new Led Zeppelin vinyl box sets featuring 180-gram, audiophile-quality discs will be released this summer. A four-LP edition of the recently expanded soundtrack to Zeps 1976 concert film, The Song Remains the Same, will be issued July 22. Like the albums 2007 CD release, the vinyl package will include new sleeve notes and six extra tracks. The second collection is a deluxe four-disc version of the Zeps 2007 Mothership retrospective, which is due out Aug. 26.


The Who Announce Fall Japan Dates
The Who will return to the road this fall. The iconic rockers have scheduled a four-show Japan tour running from a Nov. 13 appearance in Osaka through a Nov. 17 gig in Tokyo.

Springsteen Conjures Up More Magic Tour Dates
Bruce Springsteen and the E Street Band have added several dates to their U.S. summer tour in support of the Boss 2007 Magic album. The newly announced gigs run from an Aug. 15 concert in Jacksonville, Fla., through an Aug. 24 show in Kansas City, Mo. The New Jersey rockers stateside trek kicks off July 27 in East Rutherford, N.J., and is mapped out through an Aug. 30 appearance at Harley-Davidsons 105th Anniversary Celebration in Milwaukee.


Clapton Featured on Albums From Guy, Sanborn
Eric Clapton lends his talents to fellow guitar legend Buddy Guys upcoming album, Skin Deep, scheduled for a July 22 release. Slowhand guests on a song called Every Time I Sing the Blues. Also featured on the disc is Allman Brothers Band axeman Derek Trucks, who plays on two other tracks. In related news, Clapton and Trucks also contribute to jazz saxophonist David Sanborns upcoming studio effort, Here and Gone, due out Aug. 12.
