Dover Police say three dogs have been euthanized after a child was attacked in a neighborhood.
Officers say they responded to the area of Sheldrake Circle in the Cannon Mills neighborhood on Tuesday afternoon. When they arrived, a 12-year-old boy was severely injured while the dogs remained at large. An officer later fired shots at the dogs “due to their continued aggressive behavior” but didn’t strike them. Dover Animal Control later arrived on scene to assist and Officers later used their service weapons to neutralize the dogs.
The child suffered severe injuries that were not life threatening and was sent to Bayhealth Kent General Hospital, later transferred to A.I. DuPont Children’s Hospital. The dogs belonged to the child’s family member. The investigation continues at this time.
