Delaware State Police have arrested a 20-year-old Bridgeville man on a slew of charges following a late Thursday night crash that sent one woman to the hospital.
Troopers say they responded to a crash around 11:17 p.m. in the area of Millsboro Highway, south of Collins Road in Millsboro. The suspect’s maroon Ford Fusion collied with a white Hyundai Santa Fe occupied by a 24-year-old female. The suspect failed to maintain his lane and struck the victim’s vehicle head on. She was transported to Peninsula Regional Medical Center in Salisbury with serious but non-life threatening injuries.
When Troopers made contact with the suspect a strong smell of alcohol was detected. It was later revealed he did not have a valid driver’s license. The suspect, 20-year-old Isias Chavez-Chilel was transported to Nanticoke Memorial Hospital for treatment of minor injuries and later taken into custody. Chavez-Chilel was charged with felony First Degree Vehicular Assault, Driving a Vehicle Under the Influence of Alcohol, Failure to Have Insurance Identification, Driving Without a License, Driving on the Wrong Side of the Roadway and Underage Possession of Consumption of Alcohol. He was committed to Sussex Correctional Institution on $8,202 dollars cash only bond.
