Delaware State Police Thanksgiving Checkpoints Net Dozens of Arrests

(DELMARVA NEWS NOW) — The Delaware Office of Highway Safety alongside Delaware State Police and local law enforcement agencies conducted three DUI checkpoints on Thanksgiving Eve across the First State.

Officials say a total of 65 officers worked the checkpoints between 10 p.m. Wednesday evening to 2 a.m. Thursday morning. During that time, 1,463 vehicles came through the checkpoints. It has been reported that 6 DUI arrests were made, with 58 additional traffic arrests or citations, 6 seatbelts assessments, 7 drug arrests and the arrest of 1 wanted person.

Delaware Office of Highway Safety Richard Klepner said “It is our goal to remove impaired drivers from Delaware roadways and prevent tragedies during this holiday season. OHS would like to thank Delaware State Police, the many local law enforcement agencies, as well as other safety partners like DelDOT.”  He continued “Their continued commitment empowers our efforts during this most dangerous time of the year.

Future DUI checkpoints are planned in Delaware during this busy holiday season, with three checkpoints planned for December 14.
