Governor Hogan Pushes for Clean and Renewable Energy Sources

Annapolis, Md. (DELMARVA NEWS NOW) — Maryland Governor Larry Hogan has launched a new push for clean and renewable energy sources in the state, including millions of dollars in grants for solar power installation.

The Governor signed an executive order establishing the “Governor’s Task Force on Renewable Energy Development and Siting” which would help create consensus on solar and wind energy projects across the state. Among the Governor’s top priorities are assessments and inventory of state properties that could be used for solar energy and a $4 million grant program to aid universities and colleges in the installation of solar arrays.

Governor Hogan said “In my most recent State of the State address, I pledged my strong support for clean and renewable energy solutions that are affordable, reliable and produce jobs right here in Maryland.” He continued “That is exactly what these announcements will help us achieve. These innovation initiatives will provide millions of dollars in benefits to Marylanders and lower energy and maintenance costs, all while creating clean energy and green jobs opportunities.”

The Governor also touted his previous efforts on environmental issues including committing $5 billion to Chesapeake Bay restoration initiatives, joining the U.S. Climate Alliance and pushing for and enacting clean air standards.
