Three Rehoboth Beach lifeguards have tested positive for the coronavirus.
Rehoboth Beach Police Chief Keith Banks said “We believe at this time there was very little contact with the public.” He continued ‘We immediately executed our COVID response protocol and contacted the local health department. All lifeguards were notified of the exposure and will be tested within the next 24 hours.”
The lifeguards who tested positive are asymptomatic and are staying home until they are cleared to return to work.
Officials say the life guards primarily stay in their stand.
Chief Banks said staffing levels are high enough that the three lifeguards being off work will not negatively impact operations on the beach.
The Delaware Division of Public Health announced around 100 new positive cases as a result of increased testing in Rehoboth Beach.
